Places to stay in Salzburg

We will be in Salzburg for 3 or 4 nights without a vehicle. Any recommendations of places to stay within walking distance or a bus ride into town? Thanks!

Janis mentioned the Blobergerhof. I nearly didn't speak about it because it is so good, so well located, and reasonably priced that I didn't want to share it. Previously our favourite room has been occupied by somebody else.

Darn... now I've done it ...

oh, and we did not expect to eat dinner there on our first trip. One evening we didn't want to go out and tried dinner at the Blobergerhof. Well, long story short... we now have most of our meals there.

We've stayed there twice now and intend on another trip.

Haus Am Moos has been highly recommended, both on these boards and on Trip Advisor (caveat, I have not stayed there). It is on the outside of town, but is evidently right on a bus line so it's an easy quick trip to town.

I have stayed at Haus Am Moos and really liked it. Walter and his family are very pleasant and welcoming. Their little dog is a mooch, and has a gift for figuring out who'se chair to sit under and look cute. There is a direct bus into town (15 min or so) - the stop is a 1 min. walk from the B&B. The breakfast buffet is very generous and substantial. I would go back in a flash! The beautiful house and mountain backdrop gives you a great "Austrian" vibe. He does fill up quickly, so booking early is a must!
BTW - there's a very good Indian restaurant on the way into town, and one of the big beer gardens is off this bus route too.

Check out Pension Blobergerhof on Trip Advisor. Haven't been yet, but have reservations for next spring. You can take the bus to and from Salzburg.

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Hotel Weisse Taube in July. It's a a perfect location in the center of the old part of town, walking distance to everything, very helpful staff -- we loved it. I booked it based on good reviews and reasonable rates.

P.S. Three nights was more than enough time for us in Salzburg, including a trip to Berchtesgaden.

We liked our stay in the Bergland Hotel. It is in new town only 10 minutes walk from old town. Nice, very helpful staff and a good breakfast.

The residential neighborhood had number of restaurants and was nice for evening walks, especially towards the residence with its gardens.

We walked from/to the train station. If you had heavy bags, a cab might be handy.

If the prices in Salzburg overwhelm you, consider Freilassing, across the river in Germany. It's a short (8 min, €2,10) train trip from Freilassing Bhf to Salzburg Hbf, where you can catch buses to almost anywhere. There are a few places listed on their website. I stayed at Hotel Rupertus. I thought is was nicer than the picture shows. There is a church across the street. It's basically a restaurant in the front with a few rooms to rent in the back. The Freilassing train station is only a few blocks away. Near the hotel is a stop for buses going into Salzburg. You might be able to go anywhere in Salzburg for the same fare.

We stayed at the Weisse Taube right near the middle of town. It was relatively inexpensive, including a nice breakfast, walking distance to everywhere in town, and the people working there were great!

We also stayed at Am Moos B&B and really liked it (and the low price). A bus stops right near the B&B and as another poster mentioned, the breakfast is very good. Our room had a porch/deck with view of the alps.

I've stayed at Institute San Sebastian. It's cheap, quiet, clean and easy walking distance to the center. It's normally a college dorm, rather than a hotel or pension, so it sleeps more like a hostel. If you don't mind that, it's great.

Ann,

You might have a look at This Hotel in Salzburg. It's very comfortable and in a good location for walking to the major sights.

Happy travels!
