Places to stay in Munich and Salzburg

My husband and I will be on our first trip to Europe in 2 weeks. We would appreciate suggestions for reasonable accomodations in Munich and Salzburg. Thank you.

In Munich, we stayed at Hotel Uhland (we had a car and appreciated the free parking) There are some other places closer to the Marienplatz area, but I do love the Uhland and have stayed there twice. In Salzburg, we have stayed twice at Haus Reichl and loved it both times. You do have to take a bus or ride a bike into the old part, but it is really wonderful. In 2001, we stayed at the Bergland Pension...also very nice, but it went out of our budget after the dollar tanked. It was with in walking distance to the old town though.

Vicki,

My wife and I stayed at the Bloberger Hof. It is about a 10 min bus ride from the old town. It is only 1 bus ride and you will drive right by the Augustiner Brewery. Stop there for a drink and a great atmosphere. The busses run about every 25 minutes. The website is http://www.blobergerhof.at/index1-e.htm

and the owners were very nice. There are numerous B&B's on Moosstrasse. They also have free bike rentals if you are staying there. If you go out of the drive way and go right you will be up in the hills in about a mile or so and will get to bike through some really small neat towns. I would stay there again.

I'll second Hotel Uhland in Munich and will recommend Altstadthotel Weisse Taube in the historic center of Salzburg.

My wife and I just returned from Munich 2 days ago :<

We stayed at the Kings Hotel First Class. It was about a 5 minute walk from the train station and it was nice enough and only about $88 a night which was not bad at all. The room had a mini bar which we stocked ourselves from the grocery store right next door. It was an easy walk to all the sights.

I highly reccommend "Mike's Bike Tours". It was a great way to see the city and spend some time speaking English!

Have fun....Prost!

We stayed here in Munich. Apparently it's either been bought out or just changed names. It used to be the Kurpfalz...
And I second the suggestion for the Weisse Taube. Great rates (they gave us a discount of 10% with Rick Steves book) and great location.
I also second the suggestion for a bike tour in Munich, but we loved this one: Discover Munich Bike Tour It was free. But it was so great that we tipped him about 10 Euro/piece!

I concur with the Deutsches Theater in Munich. It was a very short walk to the center or the train station. We left our car parked there for 4 days without touching it cuz everything was in walking distance. The price for a double with shower was about 90 Euro p/night and the breakfast was excellent making it so we didnt have to eat until dinner

Vicki,

I'd also highly recommend Hotel Uhland in Munich. It's in a nice quiet location, the rooms are very comfortable, the staff are wonderful and the breakfasts are fantastic! Check their web site for details.

In Salzburg you might have a look at Hotel Goldene Krone. Again, it's in a nice area (lots of restaurants, etc. on the same street), easy walking distance to many attractions and the owners are also wonderful.

Happy travels!
