Hi, I am looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in Beilstein. We are two students who, unfortunately, can't quite afford the higher priced hotels that are advertised for the area. Does anyone have a suggestion of a place to stay, or a recommendation of a place to stay in a nearby town? We are considering Bruttig-Fankel as an alternative, but would really like to stay in Beilstein if possible. EDIT: Thank you guys so much for all the wonderful recommendations! Just to clarify, we will have a car.
I have not stayed in Beilstein. Check the town's website at www.beilstein.de to see what is available. Click on "tourismos" and then "ubernachtung..." for a listing of B&B's, guesthouses, etc. For any other towns in Germany, use this format: www.town name.de Have a great trip.
My husband, sister and I stayed in a lovely vacation apartment in Briedern, 2 kms from Beilstein. We rented the 2 bedroom for 41 Euro for 2, but they also have a studio that rents for 38 Euro. It's a complete apartment with kitchen, etc. Super cheap for what you get! Plus... You're renting from a local vintner who makes the most amazing peach liquor!! You can check it out at http://www.weingut-friederich.de/.
Nicole, this website has the names of Pensions in Beilstein. The column on the left has the name of the Pension, underneath is the address and under that the name of the proprietor. I just clicked Haus Johanna - they offer rooms with shower, WC and Sat TV and breakfast for Euro 24-26/person.
Gaestehaus Erika has the same amenities, Euro 24-30 per person and all rooms have a balcony. Hope this helps.
Oops, sorry, forgot to give you the website: http://www.beilstein-mosel.de/unterkuenfte/pensionen/index.html
Beilstein.de is for a town in another part of Germany. Beilstein on the Mosel is Beilstein-Mosel.de. I spent a day in Beilstein. I was staying in Tries-Karden, on the Mosel and went there by bus from Cochem. It was a Sunday, so the bus schedule was "abbreviated". I had four hours in Beilstein, and after 1½-2 hours I had seen everything twice, but I had to wait for the next bus. Beilstein is a very small town. In my opinion, it is worth a few hours, at most - it's not worth staying in. If you don't have a car, the only way out is by infrequent bus. I wouldn't use it as a base. If you are looking at a place to stay, and you can't find anything in Cochem, which is the biggest town around and a rail and bus hub, try Treis-Karden. I stayed there in 2008 at Gästezimmer Löhr. It's run by a couple with an adult son. They have a double room for €24/pers-night incl breakfast and an apartment with a queen size bed for €42/night w/o breakfast, but it has a kitchenette, so you can cook your own food. They all speak fluent English.
We stayed in Beilstein several years ago for 3 days. Even though it was small, it is on a lovely part of the river. We stayed at Haus Lipmann but it is probably out of your budget. I agree that staying here would make more sense if you have a car. But I really wouldn't recommend it for someone young as there is really no nightlife. We didn't stay here, but had a nice dinner at the Haus Burg Metternick. They have a prime location right on the river and the prices for their Gasthaus rooms seem quite reasonable. You might want to check it out. http://www.hotel-burg-metternich.de/80/Preise.html If you want a smaller town feel with a little more to do, I would recommend Bernkastel-Kues. It is a beautiful little town but with more restaurants and hotels than Beilstein.
I'll second Lee's recommendation regarding Cochem if you don't have wheels. Much bigger town with many more restaurant and lodging options. There are a ton of places, but I can recommend B&B Cochem for lodging. Lots of tourists but pretty town, nice castle, boat docks, and a train station for easy connections. Beilstein is really great for a quick visit...maybe take the boat in the morning, tour town, castle, and cemetery, have lunch, and boat back in early afternoon. In the afternoon, you could hike to Burg Eltz, train up to Koblenz and visit Deutsches Eck, do a bike bike ride along the river, go down to Trier, or just jack around Cochem...chair lift up the hill...whatever.
