We will be arriving in Barcelona on 9/24 which is during the La Merce festival. Hotels are booked! Anyone know of a well-located and reasonably priced hotel or guesthouse to try near the Ramblas?

You might try Hostal Barcelona (http://www.barcelonahostal.com/). It's a few blocks from the metro Paral-lel in a low-traffic residential area, and less than a mile from the Ramblas. The rates are reasonable and include a decent continental breakfast. It's also near Plaza Espanya and the Magic Fountain.

To get an idea of the location and the area around Hostal Barcelona, search Google Earth for '40 carrer del roser barcelona' and then take a walk to the Ramblas using Street View.

We have used Laterooms,com for Edinburgh and Barcelona and thought it was great. We were renting apartments for 4, can't remember the one we got in Barcelona, not sure if I even have info any more but got 2 bedroom apartment half block off Las Ramblas $100 per night total, representative was waiting for us when we got there, same in Edinburgh. The only problem we had in Barcelona is that there was no on-site manager and we think the "adults" upstairs were playing volleyball until wee hours and we had no one to contact. Other than that, it was great, try their website.
