Places to go by train using the Rhineland-Pflatz group ticket???

We have Trier and the Rhine from Bingen to St. Goar on our list but have two more (not consecutive) days to fill!!! Base: Ramstien- don't want to spend a lot of time getting to what we want to do. Anything note worth in Kaiserslautern or thereabouts? We love small towns and big cities both! History. Thanks!

Not sure you are asking a question about the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket. It's a one day ticket for regional trains in the entire Land of Rheinland-Pfalz. There is no three day Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket. There is a three-day VRM (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Mosel) Minigruppenkarte, but it does not include the Rhein up river from Oberwesel (not Bacharach to Bingen) nor the Mosel up to Trier). It includes the Rhein from Oberwesel down to the border of Rheinland-Pfalz (just up river from Bonn) and the Mosel a little farther up than Bullay. The three days must be consecutive and don't include weekend days (ie, M-W through W-F). Kaiserslautern is in the VRN (Verkehrsverbund Rhein-Neckar), which includes Worms and Heidelberg and extends almost to Rothenburg odT. Their regional pass for up to 5 people (Ticket 24 Plus) on regional trains for 24 hours costs €20,50.

"Base: Ramstien- don't want to spend a lot of time getting to what we want to do" You're kind of stuck, then, because I'm pretty certain the only rail access in the Ramstein area is by slower regional trains. There's a lot of castle ruins around Ramstein, but most are deep within the surrounding woods and hard to reach without a car. Some of the towns on the Deutsche Weinstraße would probably make a good day trip. Look up Bad Dürkheim and , Neustadt an der Weinstraße. My brief experience with Kaiserslautern did not entice me to return.

Another place you might consider visiting is Bad Kreuznach, which is north of Ramstein, on the way to Bingen. I hear it is popular, but maybe too touristy for me. Bad Kreuznach is in the RNN (Rhein-Nahe Nahverkersverbund) so you can't use the VRM ticket to there, but you could use the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket.

We enjoyed visiting both Neustadt & Speyer, both short train rides from Ramstein/Landstuhl. Thanks, Lee for the info on the VRM/VRN tickets. These include local transport as well as trains. We used a VRN ticket for a day trip to Heidelberg, (but this is 2hr ride), used the local buses there, then took a tram/streetcar from the Heidelberg Bahnhof to a little village about 30 minutes away (sorry, can't remember the name) for a lovely evening meal before catching a train back to Ramstein.
We went on a weekend so the VRN tkt was good for both Sat/Sun.

One highlight of Rheinland-Pfalz is the Tuscany of the North, the German Wine Road. You probably want to see Bad Dürkheim but you also have to see the small towns around it, especially Roth unter Rietburg, Deidesheim etc. In 2010 the people of Rheinland-Pfalz voted on the 50 most popular day-trip destinations within their state (for a TV station). The descriptions are in German but you get the names of towns and a picture.
