I will be staying in Lyon for one night in August and would like a recommendation for a reasonable place to stay. B & Bs, affordable hotel any suggestions?

The Ibis hotel near the Perrache train station should fit the bill. They are currently offering a 49 euro/night summer special. If you aren't familiar with the Ibis chain, they have reliably clean, small rooms, with modern bathrooms. You can easily walk to the center of town from Perrache; and it has good transport connections, bus, train, and airport shuttle.

The Ibis Lyon Gare La Part Dieu has the same rate. A little farther from the center but closer to the main rail stations and the airport.
