Our family of 3 will be in Cochem for one or two nights in late June. I would really appreciate a recommendation of a great bed and breakfast or other interesting place to stay.
Hi Allison,
While not in Cochem, we stayed in Valwig last October, which is just across the river and a few minutes away from Cochem. Very nice place run by very nice people.
This really only works if you have a car.

"This really only works if you have a car."
According to Bahn.de, there is nearly hourly bus service from Cochem, takes 15-20 minutes, and lets you off 200 yards from the hotel.
Hey Lee,
Didn't know that, as we had a car. Since we didn't see trains... I just assumed. Thanks for correcting me.
Paul
In Cochem it's best to stay right in town near the old town center. I like Haus Mattes and Haus Hilken, both on Loehrstrasse (#34 and #21 respectively) but they're not bookable online. Hilken (Tel. 026 71 / 32 54) has an outstanding breakfast, Mattes (Tel. 026 71 / 54 48) more comfortable accommodations (there's usually a living room with balcony thrown in!) Both are small family-run places with prices in the 20-25 Euros per person range.
Here are some other reviews for the Rhine/Mosel and Cochem specifically that run from simple to elegant:

Of the Cochem listings at Ben's site, at least 3 have good locations near the center and not far from the train station. the Alte Thorschenke is an upscale favorite; zum Fröhlichen Weinberg is a bit further uphill from Haus Mattes, and Haus Andreas is fairly close-in too. The Hotel Lohspeicher (not listed above) has an excellent location right on Market Square and a gourmet restaurant.
We stayed at the Weingut Rademacher in October. It's in the Rick Steves Germany book. It's not luxurious, but I can't think of a more interesting place to stay.
