Picos de Europa

Hola! I'm planning on traveling to the Picos de Europa in mid-June with some friends. I'm a student studying abroad in Valencia so I don't have a car to get there. Any suggestions on how and where I should enter the national park? We plan on doing some hiking for the few days that we are there and then moving on to experience some more of northern Spain. I'd say that we are all pretty healthy and in shape but none of us will be equipped to do any intense hiking. We are just looking to see some sights and get the heart pumping a bit after all the tapas eating that we will have been doing. I'd really appreciate any suggestions about routes to take, etc. It seems to be an area less traveled by non-Spanish tourists so I'm having a hard time finding info.

As of now I am thinking about taking a 2.5 hour bus from Santander to Potes. But most guides say to rent a car so I'm wondering if it will be worth it to spend our 2 or 3 days around Potes.

Other than a car, that's about the only way in. Potes is a good base from which to do some hiking. And you should be able to find someone in Potes to take you over to Fuente De, right in the heart of the Picos, to take the cable car up....it's only about 15 or 16 miles by twisty road. Check with the local TI in Potes to see what they can offer.
