Picking a Paris Apartment

We think we have narrowed down our choices for an apartment in Paris at the end of June 2008. All five are from Vacations in Paris, which we feel comfortable using. This is our first vacation to Europe. My husband and I are traveling with our two daughters, ages 20 and 18. We plan on visiting most of the usual sights, especially the museums.

We would appreciate any comments on the apartments and especially the neighborhoods. We are only staying 3 nights, so we want to have a great location that is fun and centrally located to most of the museums and sights.

Ile St. Louis is a terrific location, and the apartment looks quite nice, so I would vote for that one.

(We have rented from Vacations in Paris and would do so again; everything went very smoothly and all was exactly as promised).

Hi Gloria--Staying on Ile St. Louis would be great, but it's definitely the most expensive apartment. No. 72 is $70/night cheaper and on a great metro line, #1. It's also still very walkable to Ile de la Cite and left bank for sight-seeing. And there's an elevator, which you might appreciate at the end of the day. If money isn't a factor, #158 gives you lots more room for $40/night more (still less $$ than #168) and the Madeleine metro stop is a good one to connect to everything you'll want to see. That apartment appears to be on two levels, although the building does have an elevator. For me, #79 doesn't have much to recommend it, and #156 is too far away for your first, short stay when you'll probably want to see the main tourist sights. If it were me, I think I would choose #72 (good location, metro stop and price) or #158 (twice the size, good location and metro stop; higher price). We were very happy with vacationinparis, too.

My first choice would be #5 Madeline -
The Madeline area in the 8th is beautiful with just enough activity but not too much. I work i

Second would be the location at the Marais - #1
The section of Paris is lovely - the 4th is a quaint place to wander.

Port Royal - Luxemborg - not bad and should be a consideration. The neighborhood is not as picturesque in spots - this location however is not as close to main Metro lines. The address "bis" means this is a business street.

I would skip Ile St. Louis - although fun to be on the island, it is always busy. Typically, real estate here is at a premium - thus you pay extra just for this location.

Lastly - the Vieux Paris - this area in the 2nd can go from good to bad quickly. It isn't horrible - just note that it is a big wholesale district nearby and tourists cannot shop in may of the stores. This is also very busy all times of the night. I love shopping there and hanging around during the day but usually like to leave after dinner.
