I was thinking of wearing short-sleeved vests, and buying ones with a inside zippered breast pocket. I also have an ultra-soft next to skin belt to wear to put our extra cash. sounds fine to you too?
Jean-Paul, Many travellers use a Money Belt under clothing to store important items like credit cards, Passport and the larger portion of their travel cash. Since Money Belts should only be accessed when in private, keep some "daily operating cash" in a more accessible location, perhaps the inside pocket you referred to. Happy travels!
A money belt is a must. You can keep 20 Euros or so in a front pocket for ready access. Be alert and aware of your surroundings, and don't allow yourself to be distracted by doing two things at once (for example, reading a map and walking). Be especially careful on crowded public transport. There are a lot worse places than Paris for pickpockets - you will probably be fine.
My husband didn't carry a wallet. He used his moneybelt and kept a small amount of cash accessible in his shirt pocket. We were never pickpocketed or robbed.
I kept my wallet in an outer zippered breast pocket of my jacket. Never had a problem, never used a moneybelt. Left the passport in the apartment, never needed it. Was never pick-pocketed in London.
Let the moneybelt be your "wallet". You don't need half of the stuff that's in your regular wallet while you're in Paris, and it can be a royal pain to replace when you get home. Keep most of your money, your passport, your credit and debit cards in your money belt. Keep your "walking around money" in the vest pocket, and your change in your front pocket. It's been years since I've been in Paris, but I remember the department stores asking for my passport when I made purchases. Does anyone know if that still happens?
Infrequently but enough to be a pain, I have been asked for a passport when making a credit card purchase. Probably once or twice a trip.
I have never read anything on this web site about anyone loosing anything out of their money belt. I have read about folks loosing things out of their pockets.
"I have never read anything on this web site about anyone loosing anything out of their money belt. I have read about folks loosing things out of their pockets." Charlie is exactly correct. Over a number of years, no one on this site has reported losing anything out of a money belt. In the same period, there have been a fair number of people who have reported having things pick-pocketed out of their pockets. I guess that's why they call them pick pockets?
