photography at King's Castles

Based on RS description I am imagining excellent landscape photo opps at Mary's Bridge and outside the castles. I prefer to use a tripod for landscape shots. Does anyone know if I will I be allowed to carry (not use) my tripod in my camera backpack as I tour inside the castles?

From the official website: "Prams, large rucksacks and similar bulky objects may not be taken into the palace. There is only very limited space for depositing these items. No liability can be accepted for any objects that have been deposited." If it fits in a normal sized backpack, that probably won't be a problem. I haven't ventured inside in years, but I seem to recall seeing many backpacks amongst the people waiting in line when I took a family member there last year.

Scott, we last visited Nueschwanstein in 2007. I do not recall carrying a backpack on the tours of both castles. You will not be allowed to take pictures inside, however, you may take pictures from the inside looking out through the windows. You will be able to take pictures from the Marian bridge. I myself like to walk to the other side of the bridge and climb the hill and take photos looking down on the castle. Be prepared for the possibility of scaffolding around the castle. I do not know how to check to get an update on possible repairs to the exterior of any of the castles that you will see.

Our experience is that it will be no problem to carry your tripod in your backpack through the castles. We just finished tours of 3 of Ludwigs castles (Hohenschwangau, Neuschwanstein, Linderhof) and carried a backpack through all 3. At Linderhof we were asked to carry it rather than wear it due to the tight spaces up and down stairwells and in some of the rooms. My wife got bopped in the head by a tripod in a backpack at Zugspitze as the fellow turned around, so a little consideration of the space it takes up in crowded areas is always appreciated.
