The g/f is interested in a tour of a perfume factory while in Paris.. has anyone come across any of these?
Probably not since it takes bales of weeds and flowers to make the stuff - - plus big squishers. In France, most of this happens in Provence. There's a museum around Opera, but I can't remember where exactly. There's a mixing joint on the north side of the Champs somewhere close to the George V metro station. Maybe not mixing, but lots of little samples - - I've never been all the way in the door.
I think there is a perfume factory in Chartres. You could take a day trip and also see the cathedral. Lovely town with good restaurants.
There is a wonderful shop called Frederic Malle on Rue du Mont Thabor in the 1st arrondissement. It's not exactly a perfume factory, but a collection of scents from some of the best "noses" in France. The provide a very personalized, unique experience to help you find a scent that meets your dream. My husband took me there for a birthday treat, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it immensely. Came home with a perfume that probably won't be worn by anyone else, so even though it wasn't made just for me, it seems that way.
If you really want to see a perfumery, go to Grasse in Provence.
We went to Grasse (the City of perfume) and did a tour, and I was not that impressed. Really not much to it. There are so many more interesting things to do in Paris.
The one next to the Opera Garnier is "Fragonard". I believe they had a museum type factory tour upstairs. http://www.fragonard.com/parfums_grasse/GB/fragonard/paris/
