Has anyone been approached by a local claiming to be a "guide" near Jim Morrison's grave? I thought I was smelling a scam and brushed him off.

Well I wouldn't consider it a scam ,, I mean,, he would likely lead you around to a few graves of well known people and then hold out his hand for payment or tip.
A scam is more of a deception, tricking you into giving them money and giving you no benefit. If this fellow approaches tourists and says hes a guide,, well I guess we can assume he not an "offical " guide, but many guides aren't,, hes just a guy trying get some money.
I would put this under the "creative begging" category at worst.
