Pensions in Frankfurt, Germany

Can you give me some recommendations on pensions in Frankfurt, close to the Bahnhof. We would like to take the U-bahn to the Frankfurt Rhein Main airport

Just as a detail, although the transit system at the Hbf in Frankfurt is underground, the train that goes out to FRA is not an U-Bahn. It is an S-Bahn (S8 and S9). Convention in Germany is that U-Bahn stations are marked with a blue circle-U; S-Bahn stations are a green circle-S. Just so you don't take a wrong train and end up somewhere else.

Another option for a place to stay before flying out from FRA is the Hotel Königshof (www.hotel-koenigshof-mainz.de), in Mainz.

The area near the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof is perfectly safe. It may have the red light district nearby, but it is not unsafe to walk through or stay in. It also has some wonderful ethnic stores and restaurants in it and I always find it fascinating there, as the archtecture is late 1800's and very beautiful.

The train system in Frankfurt is very easy to use, so you do not really need to stay near the main train station. That said, here are a few pension type places. (not totally sure about Hotel Paris. Have you stayed here Steve?)

Steve,

I checked the rate at Hotel Ibis and they quoted a rate of 199 euro. You must know someone!

The Ibis chain is usually a good deal at 59-79 euro per night, except you don't get breakfast. Depends on the date, which we do not have for Robert. If you are checking right now, there is a Trade Fair happening which will drive the prices up. Other than that, I do like the Ibis on the Friedensbruche, as it looks out over the Main River and there is a nice park in front of it as well as the West Harbor area.

The OP asked for pensions though, so I did not give him hotels.
