Does anyone have experience with any of the numerous pensions in Barcelona, in or near the Barri Gotic? I am looking for accommodations for myself my husband that (1) have a bed or beds which are comfortable (not too soft), (2) is not too noisy late at night and (3) inexpensive. Don't want much, do I? I've been looking at accommodations in Rick's and other guidebooks and the accommodations noted as inexpensive are all over €100, usually over €120 per night. I found a site where I could view the pensions on a map but there is no information about any of them other than their phone number and address. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Have a look at EuroCheapo: http://www.eurocheapo.com/barcelona/. They not only list places by price, but also by neighborhood, and they have lots of details about suggested sightseeing, neighborhood descriptions, etc.

Thank you Harold! I just looked at their site and it is just as you said. I especially liked that they list cons as well as pros.
