Peniscola Spain

Going to Peniscola Spain for a week in April. Have done the Costa del Sol was wondering what there is to do in Valencia. How far is it from Madrid and is it worth taking a day trip?

It's a hard four hour drive so really not suitable for a day trip. The main attraction is probably the aquarium.

Thanks, I guess we will do a day trip to Barcelona and then figure out what there is to see in the area we are staying.

Karen, I might be missing something. Are you talking about day trips from Madrid or from Pensicola?

Heck, I always thought it was spelled just like Pensacola with a letter change. And I lived in Spain for three years. Dumb egocentric me............Anyway, Karen, you could make a day trip to either one, Barcelona is two and a half hours and Valencia about an hour and a half. The central area of Valencia is of mild interest, the aquarium is the largest in Europe, better than New Orleans, but not as good as Atlanta if that makes any sense. Most folks would probably favor Barcelona, I don't care for it too much, but in fairness, you'd need to spend the night to have a change to see most of it. Madrid to Peniscola is too hard - - about five hours.

I had to check to make sure I hadn't spelled it wrong and I can see why it might be the name of a drink in a gay bar. HAHAHA I loved the aquarium in NOLA before Hurricane Katrina took it out. So we will have to plan on that. We were suppose to stay in Barcelona but had to change plans when we realized we had planned our trip during our son's college graduation. Don't know how we managed that, but we did, so we had to get a different timeshare and this one is down the coast further than we wanted.

Peniscola-the fundamental drink that titillates....Ed-maybe start a petition in your town to take it back to the original spelling?

We enjoyed our stay in Valencia and wished we had stopped there for a few days. We were en route from Barcelona to Granada and only stayed 1 night. It's a nice clean city that is missed by RS's guide book (although info is available on this web site) and many others. We would return to Valencia anytime!

Karen and all, the Aquarium of the America's in New Orleans has been "back" for some years now and, in my opinion, is better than ever.
