The technical museum at Peenemunde is worth a visit if your interest is in WW2 rockets. V1 and V2s on display.

Thank you for the reply. Can you suggest anything else to do or see in the area? Is there a particular place you like to stay at in the area, pension or hotel?

How much time do you have in this area? Assuming you have 4 days, I would see 2 other towns, one right in the area and the other a bit farther but reachable by train: Greifswald and Stralsund. "Is it worth a visit?" Of course, since you'll be there anyway. Both are very historical. I myself haven't seen these places yet but definitely were recommended to me. Although further west I've visited Kiel, Eutin/Holstein and Plön but not where you're going as yet. Greifswald is in Pomerania...the famous regional museum is there. This museum covers both parts of the region, Vorpommern and Hinterpommern. and if you're interested in Prussian geography, see it. (Hinterpommern is part of Poland. )

Thanks all for the advice. I'm working on places to stay on Usedom right now. Any thoughts on which part of the island to stay on? Or right off the island in one of the towns? Will my limited German speaking skills be a problem? I can read it okay, but it's been 20 years since I have spoken it extensively.
