My husband just found out he is going to Portugal on business May 19-May 31 and he wants me to come with him. Problem is that my passport expires June 8. Does anyone know if they will they let me travel on it to Portugal with it expiring so soon. It seems to me like I read somewhere you have to have more time that that remaining for some countries.

Difficult question to give a definite answer. Conventional wisdom says that you have from 90 to 180 days on your passport from date you expect to return. BUT it is solely determined by the immigration agent at the point of entry and that country's policies. Maybe a call to the Portugal embassy would clarify. Second airlines in the US can have a similar policy because they are responsible for taking you back if you cannot get into the country. Sometimes the airline check more closely than immigrations. I think it is risky.

Thanks Frank. I actually found a long thread on this over on the general Europe part of the helpline after I had posted. Looks like I need to expedite this and hope for the best.
