passau vs regensburg

The more I read the more interesting these two places sound as an overnight stop. I would love to hear responses on others who may have visited one or both. Thx

We loved, loved, loved Passau. We did Regensburg as a day trip and didn't like it as much. But, over many European vacations, I've realized that we like the places where we stay overnight better than the ones we just touch briefly. I'll be interested to hear others' responses also.

I have not been to Passau, but I was in Regensburg at the end of November last year. I thought it was one of the prettiest towns I've ever seen. We were there for two nights and the only building we went in was the cathedral. I just loved walking around the town and doing a little window shopping. The Christmas decorations were beautiful. Would love to go back in warmer weather.

We have visited both and you are not going to lose with either. Passau is more scenically situated on a peninsula between the merging of the Inn and Danube Rivers. If you are into Gothic Cathedrals, Regensburg has a pretty spectacular one. Just wandering the alleyways and plazas in Regensburg is a treat. Flip a coin and you will win. Gary

Stayed in both towns last year and loved both of them. Both worth the trip. In Passau we stayed at the Wilder Man Hotel (great location) which also houses probably the largest glass museum found anywhere. Our Regenzburg hotel was a bit of a river walk and I would have preferred closer in, but we got in late and there was little choice left. Happy travels. Devra
