We'll be exploring France by car, but I have no desire to drive in Paris. Any recommendations where we could park the car on the outskirts for a day or two so we could take the train (preferably RER or even Metro) into the city? We'd probably be coming from the southwest (Chartres), but that's flexible.
Whenever someone asks this question I always recommend La Defense. There are a number of underground parking garages there to accommodate the business people who go there daily. Not that convenient since you will be coming from Chartres but it is an option. If you stay at a hotel at La Defense, some of them have parking facilities and then you can go into central Paris by metro or bus. Google Ibis at La Defense.
Thanks. We might go from Chartres up to Normandy and then hit Paris from the north, in which case La Defense could work pretty well.
