I will be staying for one night on Mont St. Michael and will have a car. I hear that it is alot of stairs so to pack a small bag for the one night stay. Is it safe to leave your luggage in the car? I would put it in the trunk so it would not be visable. What do you think?
Most of the sources I read recommend against leaving anything in the car. If you walk along the main street, their are no steps, but an uphill slope along a cobblestone surface. Not necesarrily the easiest surface over which to carry (or drag) luggage, but not as bad as stairs.
I would contact the hotel you're staying at and ask if they have an employee that helps people with their luggage. I know it's been a long time, but my husband and I stayed at a hotel there in '89 and they sent an employee out to bring up luggage. It's worth a try :)
We have been in that parking lot at night. It is huge and as far as I could see did not have anyone there to protect it at night. We drove in unchecked. Anyone could. I would not leave anything that I needed in the car overnight, even if it were out of sight.
Well, I guess that means I need to pack light! Thanks for the heads up on the parking at the Mont. I do travel light (one carry on bag) but it still gets heavy when you have to carry it. I do have Rick's bag with wheels so maybe it won't be too bad?
You are very clever, Darla ... packing light saves the back [and also provides a reason to purchase neat stuff along the way]... bon voyage! P
[P.S. ...be sure to have the omelet at Mont S/M!]
