Is there free car parking anywhere at Versailies. We want to park there for 3 nights and go into Paris from there.
Not that I'm aware of. I've driven to Versailles several times and always had to pay to park. Stayed in a hotel and had to pay to park at the hotel. I even checked the Versailles website just now and they don't seem to have any free parking other than some 15 minute loading zones in the most commercial areas.
Maybe you could turn in your rental car at that point instead of paying to park. Versailles is well serviced by train and obvious connections to Paris are plentiful. However, if you're going roundtrip Versailles to Paris several times than you're going to be wasting a lot of time (and money).
Thank you for your replys. No need for any more advice on Versailles. We have found some free parking at an RER station. We have a rental car for 38 days while in Europe at a wonderful price so turning the car in and renting another one would not be an option for us.
Connie, that is a find, would you mind sharing that information( after all this is a forum for helping each other and I am sure that would be very helpful information for many folks!)
Jack and I have done alot of homework on parking in Paris and we do not like to pay to park so we are going to park at an RER station that does have free parking. You can get this information on a web site and I will post that in my next reply. I know it will probably not be as safe as a parking lot that we would have to pay but we are going to try.
Read very carefully what your rental contract says about where you leave your car.
Well I guess that's good, I would make sure that theres no time limit on parking, I have a feeling some do not allow overnight parking , or allow parking for more then a few days, but who knows, if its so then that is a great idea as parking can really add up .I know in Paris its 25 euros a day in many places and in outlying areas can still be 15-18 euros ..
