Park Hotel Bacharach

We are attempting to find a hotel/pension in Bacharach for 2 nights in May which is proving to be quite a challenge (it's even during the week!). We aren't looking to stay in a hostel but there are other options and so many are already sold out.

This particular hotel is available. Has anyone stayed there or heard anything about it? The reviews I've found online are limited.

I've searched here for suggestions but I may have missed some so feel free to suggest some. :) Thanks!

I don't know that particular hotel. But in this particular case you might want to rethink the hostel option. It's located in an old castle "Burg Stahleck" overlooking the Rhine and the town of Bacharach. How often do you get an opportunity like that? You don't have to sleep in a dorm but can get twin rooms as well. And you will have a view!!! Most likely one overlooking the Rhine. But even the "back views" are gorgeous and give a glimpse of the wine country.

We stayed in the hostel in the neighboring town of Oberwesel in "Burg Schoenburg". It was probably the most spartan accommodation we've had in years (but with private rooms and private bath) and also the most memorable one.

It looks to me like it is very close to the train tracks. Some people have complained about the noise in that area.
Have you tried Im Malerwinkl (www.im-malerwinkl.de).

Are you aware that there is a listing of all the hotels in Bacharach at www.bacharach.de? If you choose the English language side, they are under "Guest dirctory". On the German side, it's "Gastgeberverzeichnis".

BTW, in their room description, remember, their 1st floor is our 2nd floor (what we call 1st floor, they call ground floor).

From either language side, the list is in German, but the site is fairly intuitive. DZ is Doppelzimmer (double room).

I decided to go with Beatrix's suggestion and book Jugendherberge Burg Stahlek hostel. We were able to get the last couples double room which has a private bathroom so we can't complain. We did watch the Rhine Rick Steves' program recently and this does look like a fun place to stay.

We are staying in Oberwesel at Hotel Castle Schoenburg on our 3rd night in the region so this will certainly offset the costs (it's our 1 night splurge). Thanks for the suggestion!

Ali,

A little tip: some visitors to the Burg Stahleck hostel complain that it's quite a treck up there lugging your suitcase uphill. But you can arrange pick-up transportation from the town (train station) with the hostel management if you tell them ahead of time.

I second that. Both Stahleck and Schönburg are very high above the train stations. I wouldn't go to either one unless I had a car or knew for sure that I had transportation.

I wouldn't want to stay in a hostel or, someplace as overpriced, IMO, as Schönburg.
