My family is spending 3 1/2 days in Paris. My children are 8 and 12 and are pretty good travelers. What kid friendly things shoudlwe include on our trip?
My then 8 year old loved seeing the Eiffel Tower - we walked up (halfway) once and took the elevator up once. We arranged a tour through Paris Greeters - residents who love Paris and give free tours. A girl named Sara gave us a great tour - really fun. We walked a lot - but that's our thing. Through Paris Walks we did a Highlights Tour of the Louvre at night - great - two hours and there were other kids there. Are you visiting Normandy? Loved seeing the beaches and the museum/movie at Arromaches (sp).
No just Paris and maybe Monets garden. Spending most of our trip in Swiizerland with family.
We went to Paris 6 years ago when kids were the same ages as yours. They loved sailing the boats in Luxembourg Gardens, we went on the ferris wheel, Arc De Truimphe, Eiffel Tower, went to Napolean's Tomb, Notre Dame, Louvre and Musee d'Orsay. Daughter does ballet and someone had given her a book about Degas and the ballerina sculpture at d'Orsay, so it was nice to see it. We tried to pace each day with some museums followed by some down time in parks. We went out to Versailles one day and they kids loved visiting the little "pretend" village of Humeau (spelling). We purchased tickets for the BatoBus boat so when we needed a break, we would climb on for some downtime. Have a wonderful trip.
The Luxembourg Gardens has a really great playground that my son loved. He got to play with kids from all over the world, which was fun and educational. The Bois de Boulogne has a very French, old fashioned amusement park called the Jardin D'Acclimatation that he thought was great. Puppet show and donkey rides at the Luxembourg Gardens, The Hop-On Hop-Off bus, boat ride down the Seine, climbing to the top of Notre Dame, climbing to the top of the Arc de Triomphe, tourist sightseeing train that goes around Montmartre, Berthillon ice cream on Ile Saint Louis, Mike's Bike Tours (or is it called Fat Tire Tours now?), street entertainers in front of Notre Dame in the evening and on the pedestrian bridge behind Notre Dame...
A boat trip on the Canal St. Martin all the way to La Villette and then a visit to the Science Park, where there are lots of interactive thingies for kids.
I agree with Norma about the canal boat. Your kids are the perfect age. Also, the Pompidou.
