Paris: Wed. 5/14- Marche, d’Orsay, Sewer Tour, Rodin, Invalides, Arc/Champs

(Hot , about 77 degrees): Three Adults (kids sleeping) went to the March Blvd. de Greenelle produce market. Info. I read said they opened at 7am, but we didn’t arrive until a little before 8am and some were still setting up. It was fun and we had the market almost to ourselves. Bought beautiful fruits and some baked goods for breakfast, which we took home to eat. Went to d’Orsay (my favorite) and toured for about 2 hrs. Went to the RER, but couldn’t find one that stopped at Pont de l’Alma, so we got off at Invalides and walked. I surprised everyone with the Sewer Tour (I thought the boys would think it was cool) and this was quite an experience. Unfortunately, I forgot the perfumed hankies back at the apartment. My brother started complaining as we descended…I thought he was just being sarcastic and trying to make the kids laugh as he hustled through the place (it was like a long maze doubling back on itself) following the Sortie signs. It was pretty stinky and my daughter actually started gagging. We had other people laughing (there was hardly a soul in there) as we all were laughing and following my brother around as he was saying “Sortie!”. It wasn’t until we got back outside that I found out what a weak stomach he has and that he truly wanted out! Never again…oh well. MORE...

We went to lunch a La Varangue and let our stomach’s settle, great food and friendly Phillipe as last trip. Then Metro to Rodin and then to Napoleons Tomb/Invalides (boys all loved this museum). Metro to Arc de Triomphe and we got our first rain. As we exited the Metro there were lots of French Vets there with flags lined up. Went to the Arc and went to the top in the pouring rain. Then we were down just in time for the band to start and the vets to march up to the Arc for the ceremony (we never could figure out what it was for, but it was nice). We walked down the Champs and did first half of the walk, stopping in Sephora and the Disney store. We stopped at a local café- Le Canon Des Invalides at 54 Rue St. Dominique, near home for dinner since it was still raining. It was an OK meal, but the owner wanted us to pay ½ cash, OK, fine. Then he couldn’t get our two credit cards to work, or my brothers-funny they worked everywhere else. I’m guessing he just wanted cash…END DAY
