Has anyone done the Paris Walks Tours. Was thinking of doing the Montmartre one, but i was wondering is it better to just wander around myself?. Would love to hear opinions. Thanks.
Hi Ellen,
I thought the Montmartre walk was great. The guide gave a lot of history of the area, talked about a the artists that lived there, pointed out places where the frequented, showed neighborhood shops, pointed out places from the move Amelie, all kinds of things that would be hard to learn on your own... When I went, we finished at the Sacre Coeur. The Montmartre walk was the first walk that we took through Paris Walks and we enjoyed it so much that we took 3 or 4 more while in Paris. We also particularly enjoyed the walks in the Marais.
Hi Ellen--I took a WWII in Paris walk with Paris Walks last June and got MUCH more out of having a knowledgeable guide than had I gone off on my own. Our guide was a mid-20's American expat doing the living in Paris thing while she was young. She clearly loved Paris and its history, was very knowledgeable and could answer any and all questions, wasn't working off a script, and also offered suggestions for her favorite nearby cafes and patisseries. I would definitely use this company again. Bon voyage!
Hello, Ellen...
We think the question of whether to go with a group or to wander around yourself -- will be answered by a careful review of the book "PARISWALKS". It is written by Alison and Sonia Landes (residents in Paris, mother tongue English).
We doubt any tour group would provide the intimate touch you may experience by wandering around yourself - with guidance provided by PARISWALKS.
Have a wonderful trip! P.
