Paris walking tour itinerary help!

Hi Everyone, My wife and I are honeymooning in Paris later this month and I'm planning an itinerary for a walking tour we'd like to take. I'm not sure that given the winter weather and the numerous stops whether this itinerary is too much to accomplish (too tiring) at a leisurely pace. Any help or advice you could give would be hugely appreciated! Start time: 9:30am Start: Eiffel tower park 1. Rue Cler (Bfast+stroll) 2. Invalides (stroll and pics) 3. Bon Marche/Epiciere (window shop + lunch) 4. Luxembourg gardens (stroll and pics) 5. Pantheon (stroll and pics) 6. Latin Qtr (stroll) 7. Notre Dame (sunset stroll and pics) 8. Dinner at Le Petit Pontoise (around 8:30-ish) Thanks, any feedback would be great!

Sacre Couer, and especially the Montmartre steps; the two islands; St Chappelle. To me- Place Concorde and the fountains, Tuileries gardens. I would skip Invalides and Lux Gardens to make time;
But thats purely my choice

That seems like a doable and enjoyable day's walking for a fit couple, I agree with others that occasional cafe stops would help. Your bladders may be your best guides for when and where. I don't think the Luxembourg Gardens are out of the way for this route, and they're well worth seeing. If you go inside the sights you mention (Invalides, Pantheon, Notre Dame) you'll eat up time and make the day more difficult. Better to return to those that interest you, on what I hope is a multi-day trip. You could do another day's walk on the Right Bank, downhill from the Arc de Triomphe to the Champs Elysees to Concorde, Tuileries, past the Louvre, and on to the Marais and Bastille. And a boat ride on the Seine (consider a day pass for the Batobus, which duplicates the route of the costlier bateaux-mouches and also functions as an aquatic hop-on-hop-off service for riverside sights like the Orsay Museum, Orangerie, Louvre, etc. etc.) Montmartre is fun but can be a steep walk. You might try a guided English-language walk with Paris Walks (www.paris-walks.com), who also do good walks elsewhere. You don't have to reserve, just get the schedule and show up.

I agree, strolling the Ile de la Cite and Ile St. Louis and the banks of the Seine before or after going to Notre Dame, should be high on this list. I also agree about the Tuilleries/Concorde. I would include the Marais too. I agree that while both places have good photo opportunities Invalids and Luxembourg, (and the Pantheon) could be skipped. Montmartre is wonderful, but not really walkable from the center of the city, where these other sights are. Again, this is personal preference Also note, currently the weather is nice for strolling, but we have had several rainy days and when you are here it could be raining. And though we usually do not have heavy rains, your itinerary could be limited by the weather. I would have a second plan that includes stopping in cafes and relaxing over a cup of hot chocolate (or a glass of wine) for a while.

Will you have only one day? I just returned from 8 days in Paris where, rain or shine, we walked around the city every day. We are very fit hikers. I would find this too much for one day, unless we made few stops. Maybe it might be better to stick to one section of the city I'd also suggest you skip Luxembourg Gardens unless you have a special interest; it's out of the way. We found the Pantheon itself fascinating, but the area not so much. Montmarte was great for strolling; you could easily take a bus back and forth and relax on the bus.
If it's your honeymoon, why not just pick a direction and stroll until you don't want to anymore, just going down side streets and finding what's there? Just have fun!

Sorry, I thought you were going into museums and sights along the way. Disregard my response!

For stroll and pics this is very doable. Yes, you can cut through the Luxembourg Gardens between the Bon Marche and the Pantheon. On that same route, you can also walk across the Place St. Sulpice and in front of the St. Sulpice church. The suggestions you've received for Isle de la Cite, Saint Chapelle, and the Marais would make a good day two walk.

One night after dinner we (I actually) decided we could walk from the opera district to the lighted Scare Couer we could see ahead of us..... long walk through back streets, up and up and up. And just when we were getting close- the Scare Couer went dark. I agree- walking TO Monmartre is difficult, but walking around in the streets behind sacre couer is very pleasant

Derek, Since it's your honeymoon, the Eiffel Tower is much more romantic at sunset with the lights twinkling. Be sure to go on-line to reserve your tickets (immediately) and avoid the long lines. Last summer we went up at 9pm while it was still light and watched the sunset from the top - adjust your time to the season. We like the Ile St. Louis area, Napoleon's Tomb, Notre Dame area (bring a padlock for the bridge), Champ Elysees, & Latin Quarter. Our hotel was near the Luxembourg gardens - nice area, but I'd skip it for this one day tour.

But don't skip the Luxembourg when you return to Paris at a nice, warm time of year!
