Can anyone tell me is it safe & reliable to rent an apartment for a short stay in Paris...
Thank you very much!
Yes it is. Try www.vrbo.com for a start. Search this site for other rental sites. There are several good ones.
Hi,
I absolutely recommend an apartment, my wife and I stayed in one through vacationinparis.com this September for 5 nights and it was fantastic, much better than a hotel, at a comparable price. We stayed in the Eiffel Tower Lookout, #154 and it was everything it looks like in the pictures on the website, absolutely perfect. No disappointments at all, I highly, highly recommend checking them out.
We went through Parisattitude.com and it worked very well. Our landlord was great. He even loaned us a travel crib for our daughter. The apartment we stayed in can be found here:
We booked a 7 day stay with vacationinparis.com in March 08. They were great and I would book with them again.
We are planning to go to Paris for the month of June and have just booked a wonderful penthouse apartment near the Eiffel Tower through vbro.com. We went through the whole site and sent dozens of e-mails to potential landlords and got back many responses. Many of the rates were lower than advertise on the vbro site. We settled on the penthouse and have done business through e-mails with the landlord.
We found that by reading the descriptions and looking at the pictures, we could tell what the place would be like. Plus guests comments were interesting. We looked up the actual locations via Google Maps and on a map of Paris so that we could see the location in relation to Metro stations and attractions.
With all the wonderful food in Paris, having a kitchen is a must - plus your dining costs would be less.
Hi Oscar,
We're renting an apartment from VRBO for 5 nights in January. So far, it's been an easy process. We corresponded with the owner by e-mail, got an immediate response about availability and price, and paid the deposit using PayPal. The rental price was less expensive than a hotel in the area (Ile Saint Louis.) We're looking forward to our stay in Paris! Best wishes!
Thank you for all your information. Further I would like to know more if I rent an apartment, any additional fee will be charge to me besides rental & a refundable deposit. As normal payment pattern, the communications like phone calls (local & IDD) and internet connection, are these all inclusively as part of the rental as well? What about the utility charges, for example: electricity, water etc. Do I need to pay it on top of the rental fee? Please advise.
Thanks again!!!
Check the listing for the apartment that you're interested in and it will list all that's included. Ours for example, includes phone, internet, DVD player, etc. and all utilities. Initially the owner wanted us to purchase liability insurance but when we questioned her further, she said that it wasn't absolutely necessary so we didn't buy it.
We also rented through vacationinparis and were very pleased. They are based in New Jersey and you pay in USD which is great. You can speak to the agents there and they are knowledgable about each apt--they share every detail. We were met promptly to receive the key and the apt we rented was even stocked with lots of basic cooking supplies.
I am currently in Paris - staying at an apartment we rented through a company called "Feels like home in Paris" - the apartment is exactly as described on their website. I would happily recommend them and answer any questions you might have.

Hi Oscar:
Not sure what you mean by short. I rented a studio apt right near Edgar Quinet metro & near Montparnasse station - I thought it was a fab location - not crowded with tourists - people actually live there. I believe there is a 7 ngt minimum - www.simplyspoken.com
Bonne chance!
