Hello, I have already been to Paris and the main attractions, but I want to fly there as my base. Other than Loire Valley (been there) where are short distance train trips to villages (1-2 hours) of a few places on this 11 day trip I can visit? I love the quaint villages as opposed to cities. I have done the trip to Avignon.
Thanks for everyones help!
"quaint villages" usually do not have train stations so are best enjoyed by car, are you renting a car?
If not, then you are limited a bit to small towns . I did a daytrip to Rouen which I enjoyed , it is however not a village. It is only 1. 5 hrs by train though and there is a lovely old town section. I can also suggest a visit to Chantilly, the Chateau is never crowded, the grounds are nice to walk around , and of course enjoy some strawberries and Chantilly cream! The chateau houses the Conde Museum which is second only to the Louvre in its collection or paintings and engravings( they have an amazing libary with many very old manuscripts and books also ) , and right across the street you can visit the Royal Stables and Horse Museum. If you have a car a nice daytrip is to Pierrefonds. Also, this can be done by train or bus, is a visit to Provins, its likely as close to the ideal "village" in the old town as it is a world heritage site for retaining its anicent ramparts and some buildings.
Thank you for the response. I won't have a car, only train travel. I have been to Provence-Avignon-Arles-Nice-Villefranche-Cannes-Monoco-Antibes-Gordes-Eze. Is there anyplace I am missing that can be by train. I can change itinerary and fly to south of France instead. Or I can visit the places you suggested. I only want 4 days out of 9 in Paris. What is the weather like during July/August?
Thanks!
