Paris to Zermatt,Switzerland ..... via Lake Geneve

Folks,
Can you help here?
If I were to buy a Paris to Zermatt ticket, am I able to hop off at Lake Geneve for few hours and then catch a later train to Zermatt?
Or do I need to buy a Paris to Lake Geneve ticket and then a seperate ticket from Lake Genve to Paris ?

Also what do u recommend to do at lake geneve for few hours. I was planning on having lunch there and catch some views of the lake.

If it were me I would purchase TGV tickets from Paris to Lausanne. After you're done exploring the Lake Geneva area, purchase tickets to Zermatt at the train station. Domestic inter-city trains in Switzerland don't require any kind of advance reservations, so purchasing tickets on the day of your journey won't be a problem.
