Can you recommend some tours (and tour companies)from Paris to Normandy to either pursue or avoid. We plan on being there in September, and after three stays at an apartment in Paris, we are finally going to get to Normandy. What else should we know about the tours, such as best length of time 1,2,3 days etc., and places to stay at? Merci!
Take the train to Bayeux and stay there. Rick has some recommendations on tour guides. We did it on our own by renting a car one day and using train to get to Caen for the museum.
Here are discussions of that subject that have been posted here click here.
We took train from Paris to Bayeux, stayed there at Hotel Churchill (many good places to stay in Bayeux) for 4 nights, and toured with Battlebus for 3 days...2 day American Experience tour and 1 day Band of Brothers tour. If we had it to do again, we would stay another night and take the British tour, too. LOVED EVERY MINUTE. Memorable and moving doesn't even begin to cover it. Battlebus is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G, and you must contact asap; they book up far in advance. They require you to be staying in Bayeux where their tours commence. Tours begin before 8:30 and end around 5.
I agree with Sharon. I just returned from a three week trip to France and Belgium and we used Battlebus for our tour. We did the same tours as Sharon and loved them. Staying in Bayeaux is very nice. The Cathedral in Beautiful and they have a war museum there too. The Bayeaux tapestry is also in town. I think that seeing it on your own you would miss all the great stories that really bring Normandy to life. We stayed in Bayeaux for four nights and I could of stayed longer. Happy travels.
