Paris to Munich on a train

I've been trying to do some research to get a general approximation price in taking the train from Paris to Munich and I don't know if i'm looking in the right places. My husband and I enjoy taking the train and would rather sit for 6 hours on a train then waiting in an airport but the few prices I'm seeing are hundreds of dollars for each of us. Is this the kind of pricing i'm looking at for the train? I don't know if i'm into spending $400 for each of us! I'm so confused. Any help would be great. We're planning this trip in October leaving on a Tuesday morning from Paris to Munich.

Oops. I forgot there was a "transportation" section in this forum. I'm sorry I stuck this in the wrong spot but any help is still appreciated! :o)

CLICK HERE to see this journey for 6/5/2008 on the German website www.bahn.de. Once at this page, place information in the "AGE" box. And, add travelers as you need from the 'ADD TRAVELERS' arrow just below and to the left of the AGE box. Depending on the date and circumstances you need, I'm seeing special fares as low as 39Euro

The prices seem quite high. Is it during Oktoberfest? Perhaps the prices are inflated for that. Also try to look at trains at other times throughout the day.

I visited Oktoberfest last year. I went from Paris to Rothenburg to Munich. Perhaps I avoided inflated prices because of this??? I'm not sure. So maybe consider a stop-over somewhere for a night or two and then compare train prices.

There are direct TVG -trains from Paris to Munich. Leaves 15:24 from Paris, arrives at 21:40 to Munich. (At least in this summer's timetables)

Prices can be everything between 39 euros and 129 euros per person. Depends on when and where you reserve.
(In any case, on the voyages-scnf.com you can reserve only 3 months in advance, and the earlier, the better)

I'll emphasize what Maria says. To get a discount fare, book as soon as the 90-day window opens. (Acting quickly will be especially important around the time of Oktoberfest.) It's easier to book in English at www.bahn.de than at www.voyages-sncf.com. FYI, there is also a direct night train for which discount fares are available.

Thanks so much for the advice and the help. I'll wait until the date gets closer and try to get the cheaper fares.
