My husband and I are finally taking our long awaited trip to Paris, Germany and Italy. We will be in Paris (fully planned already with a friend who lives there) from May 3-10. We then need to plan the rest of our itinerary. We will travel by train to Strasbourgh, then to Munich and eventually to Venice, Florence and Rome (Leave from Rome May 25). Please advise us on how to plan from Paris (stop/stay in Strasbourgh?) day trip on Rhine? Where to stay in Munich?
All those towns, and the train schedules between them, are listed on the German Rail schedule page, but it would be helpfull to spell the town names (e.g., Strasbourg) correctly. The TGV runs from Paris to Strasbourg. From Strasbourg you have several options. You can go to Offenburg, then to Frankfurt to Bingen to Bacharach (one route) using express trains. Strasbourg to Offenbourg is an inexpensive local ticket (less than €10 pP). Offenburg to Bacharach can be done with a Sparpreis ticket, advance purchased from the Bahn, for as low as €19 pP. Actually, you can save a little by booking the €19 Sparpreis ticket from Kehl. You won't save on the Sparpreis ticket, but Strasbourg to Kehl will be a few Euro less. You could also go to Kehl or Offenburg and pick up a Baden-Württemburg ticket for €29 (for 2) and go to Karlsruhe or Mannheim, then from there to Bacharach with a €24 2 person Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket. Those two Länder ticket would be slower because they require regional trains, but no advance purchase is necessary. They are always available at those prices and can be used on any regional train in that state.
