I travelling with my family (3 people total) on the Paris to Cologne Thalys route on a Saturday in early June on a railpass. Is it necessary to take care of the reservation from the US prior to leaving, or is a week enough time in advance to make this reservation when we get there? Anyone's thought on this would be appreciated as it is my first time travelling by train in Europe and my first time with a railpass. Thanks, Dan

While train travel is heavy on Saturdays, reserving one week in advance should work fine for you. But since train companies are allowed to limit the number of seats they set aside for passholders, definitely make your reservations as soon as you get to Paris.
