Will I have a problem getting to the airport, leaving hotel @ I'm guessing, 7a.m.? Can I rely on public transport and be secure in thinking I will make it in time?
You'll have no trouble getting to CDG by public transportation, but leaving at 07:00 may not be early enough. If you're flying home, you should be at the airport a full three hours before your scheduled departure time. Allow up to an hour to get from your hotel to CDG by metro and RER. What's the name and/or address of your hotel?
Have not booked a room yet, but probably in the Montparnesse neighborhood.
If you were to take metro line 6 from Montparnasse-Bienvenue to Denfert-Rochereau and the RER B from there to CDG, your total travel time would be 53 minutes. Be aware that the RER B line divides northeast of Paris. Be sure to get on a train that is going to CDG.
Linda, If you have a "generous" travel budget, you could also stay right at the airport. As I recall, there's a Sheraton or Hilton right in Terminal 2. That would allow you to sleep in a bit and have some breakfast before checking-in for your flight. Cheers!
Linda, we left there yesterday and on a Saturday we were at the airport 2.5 hours before our flight and the lines were short leaving us plenty of time, but if you are flying out on a weekday I would definitely be there 3 hours early. As for Metro/RER time out to CDG plan on an hour plus, it took us 65 minutes from the 16th arr, and as others said pay attention to the signs at Gare du Nord because our train only made 2 stops and both were at CDG, but the train before on the same track was local and didn't end up at CDG, so do watch that.
Thanks for the answers and suggestions. An airport hotel won't work because I will be touring with some friends from Chicago and dinner is planned in the city. With that said, I'll be sure to have my arrangements set up ahead of time and have a wake up call or alarm. I am very much looking forward to my day and a half Paris trip after Rome and Sorrento. Will have to come back, as it is my first time inParis.
