We are travelling through Paris for three days this summer. We've seen that prices are lower on the right bank, but have heard that its more convenient to stay on the left. Any experiences that can help us make this decision are greatly appreciated!
We rent an apt about a block away from the Seine & the St Michel Plaza/fountain (Left Bank; 6th arrondissement) Great access to the river, Notre Dame, St. Chapelle, Louvre, metro, RER, taxi stand and so close to so many sites and wonderful restaurants, cafes, etc.
The "touristy" center chunk of Paris is so walkable that I'd recommend staying on either bank - base your choice on whether it's a nice hotel, in your proce range, that isn't too far-flung, and then just get out there and see things!
Another way to slice this would be to look at your map and circle everything you definitely want to see - then try and choose a hotel close to where most of your "must sees" are clustered.
Other than that, I wouldn't worry about which bank. Everything's pretty close together - and the further-flung stuff is a short Metro hop away.
