We are trying desperately to find either a B & B, small hotel, or apartment to stay in for 3 nights in Paris, in early October for under 150 euros a night. We PREFER to stay close to the Seine River near the Museum D'Orsay area. We stay on Rue de Verneuil last year and just loved the convenience of that area. Unfortunately the place we stay in is not available this time. Can anyone give us some suggestions? We need a double room for myself and my husband. We hope to be able to walk to Seine, Louve, Pont Neuf, etc. We got on the wrong train last time going to Versailles so we are a little nervous taking the Metro or train again. We do not speak French so that was part of the problem; we didn't understand the signs on the platform and no one would help us. If you can help with suggestions, I would REALLY appreciate your input.
I found some apartments at Vacation in Paris that met those requirements. We are staying in the 7th, but there were a couple closer to that area (and priced in $$). Good luck! They come really recommended on this board and others, as well. The woman there I talked to was very helpful.
I picked the area I did, because I will be alone with my daughters- if I had my husband with me, I would have been more open to different apartments (I went to Google street view and disqualified some apartments, because they looked like they would be too quiet at night, and I wouldn't want to walk alone with the girls there in the dark.)
Becky - Paris is my favorite city in the world and I think you're missing much of it if you limit your trip to how far you can reach on foot. I walked many miles there but it's a big city! If you don't feel comfortable on the metro, try a bus. Rick's Paris book lists many hotels in your price range. I stayed at the Londres Eiffel in the 7th and the Hotel Castex in the 4th - both are near your target area and would be fine choices. Have a great trip!
we're renting an apartment in the 3rd--1/2 a mile from notre dame--this summer for less than $100/night (US dollars!) from vrbo. the exchange rate is amazing right now, and we actually saved almost $300 from what we THOUGHT we were spending when we booked it. best of luck to you, and have a great trip!
We were in Paris last week and stayed at Grand Hotel Jeanne d'Arc in the Marais. Not far from the Seine and very near the St. Paul Metro stop. The rooms are small but the location is great and it's a good value at 90 Euro per night. They don't have a/c but that shouldn't be a problem in October.
Consider giving the Metro another try--it will save you some steps and it get you near all of the major sites. It's a fun challenge. i-Metro is a website that will give you the routes to take.
Enjoy Paris!
Thanks Shannon and Donna, I will look your suggestions up and see if they work. I am also checking vrbo.com as suggested. Keep your suggestions coming folks, I really appreciate the help!
