Iam turning 40 in paris.. Any recommendations for a dinner celebration??
What's the budget? If you want a celebration you will always remember, you might want to go to Tour d'Argent. Pure theatre!
James:
Check out the recommendations by David Lebovitz (an American ex-pat living in Paris). He is spot on in all his reviews.
Just google him to find his blog.
Have fun.

I had dinner there once, way back around 1968. It's a beautiful restaurant in a high rise building, with beautiful views of Notre Dame. They are famous for their duck. As I remember, the ducks were numbered, and you received a certificate attesting to the fact that you were served duck number such and such.
When I went there, I vaguely recall that the bill (for one person) was about $35.00 Dollars, and included a nice bottle of Burgundy wine that the waiter recommended. That was a fair amount of money in 1968. These days, however, according to the Michelin Red Guide, the prix fixe dinner is 160 Euro. Not cheap.
When I went there, the restaurant had a three-star Michelin rating. It has declined to only one star, and reviews are mixed -- some say it's great, others just OK, but the experience of dining at this historic place might be worth it to you (but not to me at 160 Euro, if the food isn't outstanding).
You can read some reviews by diners at www.viamichelin.com. (Search for "tour d'argent").
thank you all for the great information!!
A friend of mine just returned and raved about her dinner in the Eiffel Tower. I personally enjoyed the cafes and smaller restaurants much more than the famous ones when we were there for my 40th! You could try TripAdvisor too, they should have lots of feedback on Paris restaurants.
Recently returned from Paris where we went against general consensus and booked lunch at Jules Verne in Eiffel Tower. Had an absolutely fabulous if pricey ($200 euro for two) lunch with a table on the windows for over two hours. To us, it was well worth it. No waiting in que either as the restaurants have dedicated lifts.
