Hello all, I will be in Paris in mid-May. I know it's not the high summer tourist season, but it will be busy. Given that, are restaurant reservations essential? I would be looking, in most cases, to eat dinner earlier in the evening, and likely going to a lot of the places listed in the Rick Steves guide. Thanks in advance for any advice,
Brian
Check-out this thread on the subject: http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/64505/paris-dinner-reservations-required.html For Michelin-star or small popular places, I'd reserve, especially for a Friday or Saturday night and Sunday brunch. The reviews for a place will generally let you know if it's better to book ahead... I personally don't reserve, unless it's a small place (few seatings) that I really want to include in a tight schedule.
What Diane said, and note that many of the places in the RS guide are cafes and brasseries, which don't take reservations.
