Hi All, Has anyone used http://www.thefork.com for restaurants in Paris? Any good restaurants on there that you can recommend? Thanks,
Jenny
The Fork, or La Fourchette in its original form, is useful for researching basic information although I would not accept its ratings without a pinch of salt. Also season the promotion offers with healthy scepticism.
It puzzles me that many Paris bistos are indifferent to the Internet and won't put the effort into accepting e-mail reservations. The Fork (and similar services) can be helpful for booking in advance, particularly by non-French-speakers. You might also enjoy a fun blog and forum http://parisbymouth.com/
David Lebovitz also has tons of good restaurant recommendations on his site.
I agree with Southam. Check out parisbymouth for recommendations. Once I've picked my restaurants, I go to tripadvisor to read the reviews. Parisbymouth may say the food is good, but people on tripadvisor will tell you whether the service was poor, etc. Making reservations on thefork.com is very easy and convenient. I tried calling restaurants on Skype on my own with mixed success.
Yelp is mostly useless in Europe, but due to the high conenctration of foodie expats in Paris, it is more common to find reviews on Yelp. That's a good place to start for better reviews than thefork.com. THat said, as a booking tool, thefork.com is really helpful for us non-French speakers.
Hi, If you're looking for an unique restaurant in Paris, I'll give you one, especially if you want Alsacian cuisine. Chez Jenny, 39 Boulvard du Temple. I had lunch there once and would go back without a doubt. Don't know anything about the website you listed.
