Paris/Provence/Loire - Is this itinerary too much?

Fly into Paris - spend 6 nights Train to Avignon - spend 1 night Pick up car rental in Avignon - drive & spend 6 nights L'Isle sur la Sorgue Drive to Avignon to drop off car, train to Amboise (looks like it has to be back via Paris) - spend 2 nights Amboise Train to Paris - spend 1 night
Fly home Can anyone recommend a better way to fit all this in? Any hotel recommendations for Avignon? Hotel or apartment rental suggestions for L'Isle sur la Sorgue? Chateaux stay in Amboise? Thank you very much.

I think this is a reasonable itinerary. If you are staying weekend-to-weekend and are willing to see Avignon as a day trip you might be able to find a rental in L'Isle sur la Sorge. Rentals are potentially nicer and cheaper than hotels (you get a kitchen and more space). There are some logistical moves that might let you avoid a long trip and/or allow you to consolidate your Paris time. If you fly home from Marseilles, OR if you schedule an afternoon flight home from Paris, you can dispense with that awkward last-night-in-Paris thing. For Marseilles, drive to the airport. For Paris, take the early train that goes direct to deGaulle. It will get you there by 10:30 am. If you can stand a short train trip after your plane ride, then you can begin your trip in the Loire. Then move to Paris and then to Provence. I do not think the long trip from Provence to the Loire (via Paris as you note) is so bad, but this would let you break it into more manageable chunks. These moves involve trade-offs so you might prefer your original plan. But they are worth considering.
