Rail Europe offers three different Paris passes: Paris Museum Pass, Paris Visite Pass, and Paris Pass. We'll be in Paris for 2.5 days. Any opinions on these cards? Years ago on a trip we got the Museum Pass and purchased it at a subway station. Is it better to buy in advance?
The museum pass costs €35 for 2 days. The Paris pass costs €99 for 2 days - that's €64 more!!. If you want to do something else on your 1/2 day - bus tour €24, wine-tasting €30, it will still come out cheaper to buy the museum pass and do the other thing separately. No matter how much public transportation you use, you won't get to €64. You can buy the museum pass at so many places in Paris, there is no reason to buy in advance and pay the premium. You can buy it at the Tourist Information kiosk at the airport or in the city, the train stations or at most of the museums (recommended not at the most popular ones - the lines are long and most of the reason for getting the pass is to avoid the lines). Here's a link to the official site, listing the points of sale. http://en.parismuseumpass.com/rub-the-pass-points-of-sale-3.htm?cat=1
The Paris Visite pass is never worth the expense and if you will be in Paris only two and a half days, buying a carnet of 10 tickets is likely all you will need.
Thank you!
Is there anywhere to buy the Paris Museum pass at like 11pm on a thursday night? I want to get the pass the night i arrive so I don't have to wait for it to open at 9am to get it, then hop on a train to versailles. I want to be at versailles right want it opens (or any of the other big museums depending on what I decide to do the first morning I'm there. Thanks, Chris
Well that is a bit tricky,, which musuem is your hotel closest to?? You could wait till it opens( usually at least 9 I think though) then hop the train to Versialles,, since you will have the pass you won't have to worry about a long line to beat at least.
According to the website - see the link I posted in my previous post - it is on sale at the FNAC store, 74, avenue des Champs-Élysées, Paris 8e Monday to Saturday: 10am to Midnight | Sunday: Twelve to Midnight M° Franklin Roosevelt, Georges V
RER A Charles-de-Gaulle Étoile
Paris Museum Pass was excellent. Virtually every site we wanted to visit was covered by it. And the price was very reasonable. If you don't buy it online, you can also purchase it with cash at Paris Tabac stores. We didn't buy ours until we got there and it was fine.
I understand that some hotels sell them. Ask yours before you go.
I have researched all of these to death and here is my advice... Don't buy them from Rail Europe.
For only 2.5 days, I would just buy the Paris Museum Pass (unless you have been to them all so many times you have seen it all and are 'done'). But it at a Metro station. You would never get your money back on the Paris Pass, I figured that one for myself by hand (and I have 5 days in Paris). Remember it is up to you and most importantly have fun and enjoy the trip! :)
