Paris Pass for kids?

We are planning to purchase Paris Passes (with include the museum pass and metro) for ourselves. Should we buy them for our kids, who get into museums free, or should be buy a Paris Visite pass (for transportation)? Is there any benefit to buying a Paris Pass for them?

karen the paris visite pass is usually not considered a good deal at all, why not just buy a museum pass for you and hubby and a few carnets of tickets( each carnet is 11 euros and is good for 10 one way trips on bus or metro) .. that will work out way cheaper.. and you will find you can walk from many sites to each other.

I agree with Pat. Buy Paris Museum Passes for the adults and buy carnets for transportation. The current price for a 10-ticket carnet for persons 11 and older is €12.70. If any of your children are 10 or younger, buy a carnet réduit (€6.35) for them. Persons under 26 can benefit from buying Ticket Jeunes passes. They are one-day passes good on either Saturdays or Sundays. A zone 1-3 Ticket Jeunes pass costs €3.55.

Thank you so much! I will plan on the less expensive option that you have mentioned. My kids are 14, 11 & 8. We had thought of five day passes as we had thought that it would simplify getting around. But if we can learn more about the Carnevalet, that sounds more economical. Thanks!

I also agree the Museum Pass is your best option. Most places kids get in free with a paying adult. You'll have to research the places you want to go to see the ages kids get in free versus when they have to pay. I think there were only one or maybe two places we had to pay our teenager to get in, but it was much cheaper to do that than buy a pass.

Karen you mean "carnet"( ten single use metro tickets sold at a slight discount) not Carnevalet,, which is a museum.lol

Karen ,,, where are you staying? You would be surprised how walkable it is to get from site to site if you organise them by area. Perhaps if you list the main things you want to see people can suggest how to group them together and how many are walkable from your location.

Yes, Carnet not carnavalet! Lol thanks for the clarification. Great idea to research which places that we might need to buy a ticket for our teen. I've heard about the lines & we definitely want to skip them! We have 4 full days which will go quickly, 7/1 - 7/4. We have rented an apt in the 11th arrondissement, closest to the Charonne metro station. We rented an apt b/c my 11 yo has Type 1 diabetes, celiac disease (no gluten) & a life threatening peanut allergy so having access to a kitchen is a must! Your point about walking is great. My mom will be with us too so the distance we walk might be a bit limited. Thanks for your interest and feedback!

Don't knock the Paris Visite until you've tried it! There isn't a good reason to buy your kids a Paris Museum pass unless you are goingn to be going to the handful of museums where children aren't free. Or you really don't want to wait in line at Invalides (Army museum) to get a free ticket for your kids. Those are the only way your children could even use the pass. Because you are going to be returning to the apartment frequently, and one member of your group isn't going to be able to walk forever, you may actually benefit from having a Paris Visite pass for your children. Especially with an 11 year old who is too old for demi-tarif tickets and yet a child for the Paris Visite. (Not to anyone reading: the demi-tarif is actually only for children under 10. 10 and up pay full price for metro tickets.) The Paris Visite will also cover transportation to/from the airport if you zones 1-5. For the adults, you can consider purchasing the one-day passes, called Mobilis, for just over 6€ for zones 1-2. If you are there M-Su, you can also consider a Navigo Decouverte which is 24,15 (includes one-time charge of 5€). For 15€ more, you can get zones 1-5 which would include the cost of the RER to/from the airport, which is 9,25€ each way if you buy a single ticket.
