Paris over US Thanksgiving Holiday

We were in Paris late last October, and we are tempted to book four nights this year over the Thanksgiving holiday. Can anyone advise of what we can expect in the city or surrounding area that time of year? I understand that there will be some Christmas markets already under way, particularly the Champs Elysees. I'd really like a day trip away from the city as well. We have visited Provins and LOVED IT. Would be tempted to do that again, but should probably expand our horizons a bit.

The US holiday of Thanksgiving is not recognized in Paris so that week will be no different than the week before or after. Generally the Christmas market open around the first of December.

I just checked and last year the market on the Champs Elysees started on Nov. 16, which is surprisingly early. The ice skating rink at Hotel de Ville is set up as a rule the first week of December.

Theresa, hey fellow Dallasite, we've done this twice, worked out nicely. Left on Wed., came back on Monday. Weather was great, not as much Christmas decorations as one would think, but flight costs are less, not that crowded, but.....days are shorter. Galleries Lafayette already had their huge tree up, interesting place to go to, even for non-shoppers, near Opera House. One year we hopped on Eurostar and went to London. Went to Harrod's, it was a zoo, they also Celebrate Black Friday. Leave early on first Eurostar and come back in evening, last train. Going first class is not only cool, but they serve a very nice breakfast. If you purchase early, not too expensive.

I was there the last two years over Thanksgiving and it was a great time to visit. A bit of rain, but some days were really nice with a light jacket. Great to see the lights of the city earlier because of the shorter days.
Did a trip to Normandy and MSM during this time and it was great. Normandy and the beaches were virtually empty. Just bring layers and if it rains the umbrella salesmen appear instantly. Have a great time.

Thanks to everyone for your advise. I was away for the weekend, and just saw all the kind responses. We are all set for our journey, and I believe we will enjoy our time in Paris, regardless of weather. We are thinking of a possible day trip to Rouen or Strasbourg (we've been there for just a few hours) for the Christmas market. Anytime in Paris is a good time! Theresa
