We need to be in Tuy, near Vigo, March 5th. Will have aprox. 7-9 days to travel before that date. So many questions!!! Would we have time for a stop in Paris? Would we be better to concentrate on Madrid, Toledo, Avila, area? How do we get to Vigo? The drive seems to be over mountains. Is that an issue in late Feb.? If you rent a car in Spain can you take it into Portugal? What would the Sun Coast be like at that time of the year. There are 4 adults traveling.
Thanks for the suggestions. I checked the website and did find the train schedules. I can't find any info on prices, either on that site or the Portugal train site. For planning purposes, can you give us a guess as to how much this trip will be? I did see that we need to connect in Porto. The entire trip is 10+ hrs. should we plan an overnight along the way or just power thru to Vigo? I guess my question is if we do an overnight, which city is the most picturesque?
Paris, Paris, Paris! Then fly to Madrid or Lisbon, your choice, they're both about a half day's drive to Vigo. Dollars to donuts a car is cheaper for four people than train tickets, plus, if you start in Madrid, you get to go to the Prado. The only mountains that get rough in winter are the Picos de Europa and they're well north of your track.
Paris would be wonderful! However, as of today Madrid is at least $200 cheaper airfare. Since we haven't seen either, and Madrid Feb. weather seems a bit better, what if we left Paris for another time. Also, I understand that French kids have a school break the last part of Feb. so Paris tourist sites may be as crowded as early summer. I'd love to hear thoughts on Madrid. Hotels (100 euro neighborhood), day trip options (there are so many!!) & thoughts on how to get to Vigo(plane, train, or auto). All experiences will be new and exciting. How to choose?????
