I have an option to have a rental car during my 6 day stay in France/Paris this June. I am just wondering if it would be better to stay outside of Paris. I could than take day trips to popular places (Versailles, etc) without the hassle of fighting Paris traffic. On a couple days, I could ride a train into Paris and leave my rental car behind?
And where would be a good place outside of Paris to stay, near public transportation? Or should I just forget the rental car option and stay in Paris the whole time. Take public tours/transportation to Versailles, etc? I am just wondering if a couple days for Paris is enough, and it would be better to use my remaining time traveling around France in my rental car.
If it were me, I would not get a rental car. I would stay in Paris for the 6 days and use public transportation (excellent) for day trips. Getting to Versailles, for instance, is very easy. Most, if not all, day trips are very easy to get to by public transport.
I agree with Susan.
I agree with Susan too!
Thanks for the help!
Paris would be crazy with a rental. You could enjoy it for 3 days of sightseeing then take a day excursion to Giveny/ Versailles and then a day excursion to the Loire chateaus. The bus excursions are very affordable and bring you back on the same day and will feed you. The other option is 3 days in Paaris then rent the car and take it into nearby Burgundy and enjoy the wineries.
I agree with Susan too. !!
I always agree with Susan.
I agree with everybody else! Stay in Paris, forget the car, and take the train (or bus!) to Versailles.
Yes, I decided to stay in Paris, without a car, and extend my Paris portion to 7 days. Trying to line up a nice apartment in the Latin district now. Leaving Colorado April 8th. Wont be back until mid July.
Sounds great Dave! I'm glad you're giving Paris a decent amount of time - my favorite place on the planet. You didn't ask, but... for apts try parisbestlodge.com or vip.com. If you have a generous budget also try chezvous.com
