Paris/Normandy

Looking for advice for 5 day suprise trip-thought I had it down to arrive 9/24 CDG, rent car, drive to Bayeux and stay 2 nights @ Hotel d'Argouges (Churchill booked) to tour D-Day sites 9/24-9/26 and return to Paris9/26. Ballbus is booked on Fri 9/25, but after reading more and more reviews should I resched, stay in Paris 1st night and then head to Bayeux on Fri so we can do the BB tour on Sat?

I would do definitely plan around a Battlebus Tour, that would be my highest priority. We had an outstanding tour this last spring--can't say enough good things about it!

Did you do the American Experience one day tour? Where did you stay?

Jill, you're going to love Hotel D'Argouges! It's our favorite. Doing a BB Tour is great, but you'll lose time from your trip if you stay 1st night in Paris. We did it w/o tour many times before we did a BB tour. Both ways worked well for us.

Thanks for the advice Susan! I agree, chopping the short trip up isn't looking so good. I was in Paris 10 years ago, Bob (suprise 60th present) has never been. Wondering if it would be worth it to spring for a E.T view room in Paris: Hotel Duquense Eiffel, Hotel de Londress Eiffel, OR Muguet, Beaugencvy, du Cadran, LeBoudonnais, Eber Mars or Hotel des Grandes Ecoles? All have openings. Last minute trips grrrr.

Jill,

Taking the train to Bayeux would undoubtedly be faster than using a rental car, and probably less stressful also. Staying in Paris one night and then heading for Bayeux would probably be a good idea, as you'll be jet lagged and probably not in the mood for several more hours of travel.

I stayed in the Duquesne Eiffel on my last trip to Paris in May/June, and it was great.

Good luck with your planning!

We stayed at this B&B, Hotel de Sainte Croix, and thought it was so lovely. King size bed, huge bathroom and gorgeous antiques through out. It is very old house that has been renovated perfectly. The price a couple of years ago was 75 for a double, so not sure about right now. Really wonderful breakfast too. If you are giving this as a birthday present you can't go wrong.

I think I would stay over night in Paris the first night too, and take the train the next day. It will save you lots of stress and probably time too. We did the 2 day American Experience tour and it truly is one of the highlights of all the vacations I have ever taken.
