Paris neighborhoods

Just like Amanda in the post below, we are going to spend some time in Paris and are wondering which neighborhood to stay in. I did note that Marais was highly recommended in Amanda's post. But I also read somewhere that Montmartre is the a great place to stay. I'm kind of looking for less touristy, more quiet, but still want to be connected to all the sights by Metro. Any thoughts on Montmartre?

Thanks

We have enjoyed staying in the Latin quarter near the Seine. It is very central to Notre Dame, the Marais, the Louvre. The ET is about 1.5 miles, but still walkable. You can walk to almost all of the sites from there, except for Montmartre which is rather far from most of the other tourist sites.

Molly,

Have you ruled out the Rue Cler area? Although it's a bit "touristy", it's very convenient for a lot of the major sites and has good Metro access.

I'm not a big fan of the Montmartre area, at least not for a location to stay.

Hi Molly,
We stayed last year in the Marais in Rue St Paul. Excellent location - 2 mins to Place des Voges and 10-15min walk to Louvre, Notre Dame etc.
Highly recommend the Marais and while shops in other areas are closed on Sunday, the Marais remains open.
I love the 4th Arr. and would go back in a heartbeat.
Montmartre is too touristy for me.
Happy travels.

Well, the Marais it is then! I'll be looking for apartments, which I never would have thought of if it hadn't been for another post here. Merci beacoup tout le monde!
