Alas, it's true. The Louvre was also completely closed on Thursday.

I was lucky. I flew to Paris from San Francisco on Saturday, and happened to read about the impending strike in a French newspaper on the plane. The strike was set to start on Wednesday, so I hurried to visit the Louvre on Monday (closed Tuesdays) and the Orsay on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, the Pompidou Center, which I most wanted to see, has been closed for a week.

Yes, I would have been sad to have missed those museums, but Paris is so full of treasures, you could hardly run out of places to visit in a month: Marmottan (private), Cluny, Invalides, Orangerie, Carnavalet to name a few of my personal favorite art museums.
