Paris Museum Pass: with Kids, with Student (French), with non-Pass Visitor

Right now it looks like we'll be buying 6 day PM passes for the 3 Adults in our group...OK, that part is easy. Here's the questions I couldn't find answers to in the book:

For the two kids under 18 (Admitted free at most museums)-
-What "form of ID" do I need to bring for my kids? Is their passport OK? My youngest 12 doesn't have a license or student ID so I wouldn't know what else to bring?
-And as RS says they can get in line with us in the passholder line, right?

My 20 year old daughter has a Student ID card for France that's good for the rest of the school year- while we're there. She just returned from a semester abroad in France but was supposed to be there the year so she payed for/got the year card (long story- got sick, hopitalized, and we had to bring her home for surgery, better now). Anyway, are there discounts available to her for the pass with this ID?

My oldest son turns 18 while we're there. It may be less expensive to buy individual tickets to each museum for the few days he's 18 there. If we do this though, can he wait in the Museum Passholders line with us to buy a regular ticket or would he need to wait in the regular lines (if that's the case we'll buy him a shorter pass)?

Thanks!!!

Nancy , re son turning 18 while in Paris. Just go to the museums with lines while he is still under 18,, not all musuems have long lines,, so he can skip lines with you for Orsay, Louvre and Orangerie while under 18, and the rest just buy tickets and wait like 5 minutes to walk in( some have almost no lines, have you decided which ones to do on which day already??)

For my son who was 14 ,no one asked for his id,, but I brought his student card anyways, if your kids look "old"( obviously this is not going to be an issue with a 12 yr old as they rarely "look" over 18,) I would bring passport as that is the best piece of id you can have. I would wear a passport in a money belt though, I normally leave it in a room safe so I feel vuneralbe with it on my person, LOL )

Check the Web sites of the museums you wish to visit that are covered by the pass to see if they have any special deals for persons under 26. For example, on Thursdays the Musee d'Orsay is free after 18:00 for persons under 26. The same is true for the Musee du Louvre on Fridays.

Nancy - for the kids under 18. Just have passports with you. We were never asked to "prove" that our kids were under 18, but learned to say "she is 15" for the older one. They can indeed just get in line with you and you are all waved through.

For the one who turns 18 - the thing is, you do NOT stand in a ticket line with your Museum pass, or at least not in the places we used it (i.e. Louvre). You are bypassing the ticket buying experience by using the pass. So I would imagine that he would have to stand in line to purchase a ticket and then enter after that.

Can't help with info on the 20 year old but it might become evident when you are purchasing your adult passes that there is a discounted pass for students.

We'll have to carry passports in our moneybelts anyway as we're staying in apartments with no safes- so it sounds like that will cover the entry questions if needed and then they can go in with us.

I'm working on our itinerary for in town now (I've been booking the day trips first as they involved making reservations etc.). I guess I'll decide what to do with my oldest as I finalize, but it sounds like buying individual tickets for places he'd be in the regular lines (after 18)- not an option. I'll look at ea. museum for that under 26 deal...never heard of that one, thanks!

I'll try asking on another site about the French student ID and hope I get a college student in Paris who knows, but like you said, we can ask when we buy them (if I can learn to communicate in French a little better between now/then!).

Thanks all!
